Mesh Mashup Extravaganza!

To start diving into our mesh mashup project I tried to use a range of ideas when exploring remix. Because remix culture covers a wild variety of genres and effects many different things I thought it was important to branch out how I express my ideas. To do this I explored prompts such as a piece with narrative, a look at existing name brands, and stories that connected to my personal life.

But before we can explore remix culture for this project first I have to ask myeslf, what does remix culture mean to me?

Something I never really considered was how prominent remix culture is for artists. As artists the creation of art is insanely important to us all, we have sources of inspiration and things that give us a drive to create. When I thought about this deeper I came up with a surprising revaluation to me, all artists participate in remix culture. It's something that is so obvious but I had never thought about it before. Ever artists has sources they take from to add and create their own art/ art style. Even myself, I could tell you most of the artists growing up that drove me to create a certain way or influenced how I created. This way of taking multiple artists ways of doing things and mashing them up had created a remix, thus I came to the conclusion that art styles were remixes. I think the importance of remix culture issn't really stressed enough. While some artist may have an amazing idea their idea was born from the things that they see or grew up with that influenced their final product. Just as that artist takes influence from others to create a new thing another artists will take from that artist in order to produce something new. 

I thought looking at remix culture deeper like this really helped me have a better understanding of why we used other models to create something new. By taking several different models, all of which had different purposes, and mashing them together we get something neither artist originally intended the project for.

Honey there's a crack in the bath, no not a crack in a Kraken. - Trying to raise your own kraken? Remember they need space to destroy weekly destruction baths are ample when raising a kraken. The idea of krakens is really appealing, no? Well why not try adopting today! I liked the idea that someone would adopt a kraken and keep it in their bathtub but incorporating all these objects came to me because a responsible kraken owner would have to give their kraen play time, right?

One Small Step for Dogs and One big step for Kanine Kind! - Finally putting a dog on the moon! He’s making his parents proud. While brainstorming ideas I decided to pick out an item and use things that came to my head immediately. After finding the bust of a dog I immediately thought I could put his head on a suit, a dog in a suit though isn’t that interesting. So how about a dog in a space suit? Now we’re talking.

Um... What Happened to the Witch? - After a potion experiment gone wrong it seems the witch has cursed herself? I wanted to implement a sort of story using mixed objects and when I saw this toad my first thought was, a witches familiar which started my search for witch like items.

Swing Set Dinner Party - You know what's terribly boring?  Adult dinner parties, well with this new invention say hello to being the talk of the neighbourhood. The Dinos are Fighting Back - Were the dinosaurs ever given a fair opportunity to fight back? I think not. WWelcome to the ring! In this corner, a buff T rex and in this corner a giant meteorite! FIGHT! I wanted to take the age old story of the dinosaurs being taken out and flipping it to give the dinosaurs a chance.

Bookcase Apartment - The bookcase apartment came to me looking through the furniture section because looking at the bookshelf made me think of the hit app, tiny tower. It’s simple structure could give me plenty of space for an apartment complex and books coils be used as walls, a perfect combo really.

Gravy Train - while listening to yung gravy on Saturday night I thought of it. What's the hardest thing at Thanksgiving dinner? Asking people to pass you something down the table. Especially gravy, it’s liquid state does not make it easily transferable. Now with the gravy train the gravy will rotate around your table like a sushi conveyor belt.

Unicorn hands - what’s so mythical about a horse with a horn? I decided to improve the design of the unicorn by giving it some flare. My idea for this abomination actually came from a scene from a beloved show I watched goring up, adventure time. Where in one of the episodes a creepy dear kidnaps a bunch of kingdom villagers and while exploring this mystery our main characters run into the deer where he takes off his hooves to reveal hands.

Deadly violin - When thinking of combining objects I tried to think of something that directly connected to me and went on a search. Little fun fact. I used to play the violin; I was pretty young around 8/9 but I played for a while, I wasn’t very good. In fact when I used to play adults would scrunch up their faces, holding their breath as if I was about to start cutting violin strings. Gave me an idea. Thus I give you what people saw when I played, the deadly violin.

Skull candy - When coming up with ideas I knew I wanted to try and use at least one brand or product with a name disconnected to it and make it literal. With that Skull candy is born!
